The role and purpose of IIB Regional Groups

IIB Regional Groups are the primary focal point for Associates to work with their fellow Associates locally. The Institute for Independent Business is a research training and accreditation organization, Associates and Fellows accredited by the IIB are independent practitioners, operating as business advisers, coaches and consultants etc. IIB Regional Groups are therefore a vital part of the network of Associates, organized and run by Associates for Associates and not the Institute.

The main role of an IIB Regional Group is to provide a platform for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of its members, which is essential for helping Associates with their own practice and business development, as well as the development of their clients. Keeping up to date and fresh with techniques and methods is an essential part of Associate CPD.

Associates work with each other for client assistance, which is one of the main strengths in offering and providing practical advice that works with the IIB Business Support Program(me)™.

Personal networking and Associate to Associate business promotion is another key factor. At a time when social networking is being increasingly driven online, many Executive Associates and Fellows travel considerable distances to meet monthly, so that they may develop personal relationships with their fellow Associates. Associates work in a client-centric face to face environment to help deliver practical advice that works, and as much as technology is embraced, the majority benefit from attending IIB Regional Group meetings.

Many Associates are members of more than one IIB Regional Group, such is the appetite for networking and CPD, plus the ability to promote specialist skills within the network of Associates. IIB Regional Groups also find ways to help their Associate members develop through mutual effort.

IIB Regional Groups provide guidance so that Associates operate in compliance with the Institute for Independent Business Code of Ethics. They are therefore officially recognized and operate according to certain rules within the Institute's Regional Group Policy. Every Group's constitution has to be vetted and approved, and strict rules apply as to what groups can and cannot do. For example, IIB Regional Groups encourage mutual effort which can include running information seminars or workshops for clients, but regional groups are not permitted to operate as a trading entity. Any business transacted is done so between Associates and their clients directly, and not through a group.

One of the officers of a Regional Group provides liaison between the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) and local Associates. The PCC is an independent committee run by Associates for Associates for grievance and disciplinary procedures.

IIB Regional Groups also get involved at a national (country) and international level. Most countries have a quarterly IIB National Workshop & Forum, these are often organized and run by one or more IIB Regional Groups. Also, International Conferences are organized and run, the right to do so being open to proposal. The Institute reviews proposals and the country chosen has the International Conference organized and hosted by the successful IIB Regional Group(s).
