Structure of IIB Regional Groups
Associates that form the Executive Committee of a group, work voluntary for the benefit of their fellow Associates. The number and type of group officers vary from one group to another, but as required by the Institute for Independent Business will always include:
- Chairman: The main Associate contact and Officer responsible for leading and the running of the group, and reporting to the IIB if required. The Chairman takes charge of the group meetings and committee meetings.
- Professional Conduct Liaison Officer: To err is human, and inevitably misunderstandings do from time to time occur. Before the Professional Conduct Committee and any complaints procedures become involved, the PCLO is a first port of call to mediate in any Associate disputes. Due to the low volume of work this is however, probably the quietest and least busy of the roles!
- GAC Liaison Representative: IIB Regional Groups provide the route for reviewing Associate suggestions ideas and proposals, and if supported at group level is represented by this officer at the Institute's General Advisory Council.
- Secretary: Responsible for organising regional group meetings, producing meeting agenda, and minutes of meetings.
- Treasurer: Maintains the group's accounts, manages the group's funds, records financial transactions, prepares and presents statement of accounts and balance sheet at the AGM and to the Institute as required.
Groups often appoint other officers, for example a CPD / Speaker Secretary, who will focus on the forward planning, organising and co-ordination of:
- CPD sessions
- External guest speakers
- Associate speakers.
Associates not only have the opportunity to promote their own specialist skills and their client services, but can also provide CPD sessions to help their fellow Associates to run their own businesses, keep up to date as practitioners, and ultimately to help their clients.
